Besides being an amazing and respectful guest, not much! You can choose to swap as many or as few times as you want. Better yet, you don’t have to pay anything until you find your first swap!
Yes, you can still exchange homes if you rent your home. However, you know best if that is something your landlord would allow and if not, you can check with them! You could also review your rental agreement to ensure there are no restrictions that would prohibit home swapping.
The short answer is yes! It’s an all or nothing swap when you use Mi Casa. That means you and everyone you live with swaps with you. That said, make sure that your roommates are also onboard with signing up for Mi Casa because you will apply and be interviewed as a household.
Yes, you will be brought into a chat with potential Mi Casa swappers before you confirm the exchange. There you can negotiate dates and discuss any details of the home swap. Don’t worry though, we provide tips to make sure your conversation goes smoothly. We even encourage members to video chat prior so that you can build more of a connection before agreeing to a home swap.
Every member will have entry instructions that are shared once you agree to a swap. This could include using a lockbox, receiving a code for keyless entry, leaving keys with a neighbor, or coordinating with the front desk if applicable.
Mi Casa encourages all members to clean and maintain the homes they swap as if it were their own. When you join Mi Casa, you will attach housekeeping instructions to your profile so that your swap partner knows how to upkeep and clean your home. It is expected that each member will leave the home they swap in the same condition as they found it.
We work hard during the vetting process to ensure that all homes on the platform meet our quality standard. There will be some differences in the value of the homes that are being swapped but it won’t be as drastic as The Holiday! We also encourage members to be transparent about the condition of their homes and to communicate openly about any concerns or issues. Ultimately, it is up to each member to decide whether they want to proceed with a home swap, and they should consider all factors, including the value of the home, when making that decision.
